2010 Jazz Gallery

Here are the first images of the 2010 Jazz festival. The annual Jazz Parade starts at Guildford Sq and continues along Montague St led by the inimitable Jenny Brown. The parade ends around the fountain and steps on the esplanade. As you can see the participants put a lot of work into creating their colourful and in some cases bizarre brollies.

These images are of Swing Guitars playing at the 292 Club on Saturday afternoon

Saturday evening at the Pavilion Main Hall was packed with jazz fans eager to here T J Johnson and Brass Impact.

Sunday afternoon at the Glenburn Hotel and the Keith Stephens Hot Club Quartet are in action with local musician Paul McKay deputising on bass.

Later in the afternoon at the Pavilion, Bobby Wishart and his band performed a brilliant set. Bobby really seemed to be enjoying the new Pavilion grand piano. We also have some images of the Castle picnic gig with the fantastic T J Johnson Band.

On Sunday evening the Freetime Old Dixie Jass Band from the Netherlands performed to a full house at the Craigmore Bowling Club pavilion.

The festival headlining act, The Big Chris Barber Band played to a packed house in the Pavilion Main Hall on Sunday night. Chris Barber celebrated his 80th birthday on the 17th April, but the years have not dimmed his enthusiasm or sapped his energy. A storming set!

On the  Monday of the Jazz Festival, the Pavilion main hall hosts the Farewell Session. This year the session was opened by festival founder Phil Mason and his Allstars accompanied by jazz singer Val Wiseman. Rounding off the festival this year we had local musicians, The  TIM SAUL MODERN JAZZ TRIO with Caroline Gorman.
Just before the finale Jenny Brown presented flowers to Hanne Mason in recognition of her hard work in getting the festival organised  this year and then the traditional rendition of Auld Lang Syne with Jenny Brown on Vocals and local piper Robin Patrick in full piping dress rounded off proceedings.
